Mia Davies has welcomed the announcement of a ground-breaking Regional Australia Future Fund, to deliver a guaranteed annual funding stream in perpetuity for regional, rural and remote Australia.
She said this, along with the $ billion Local Road & Community Infrastructure Fund, was fair recognition of the contribution regional Australians made in growing the national economy and the unique challenges faced now and into the future.
“The Nationals in Government will guarantee a portion of income received from resource projects across Australia will be put to the establishment of Regional Australia Future Fund to grow this Fund to $20 billion,” she said.
“Much like Royalties for Regions, this fund will provide certainty for communities who are planning to deliver projects and infrastructure that there will be support available to get things moving.
“A national program that delivers a significant benefit back to the regions that create the wealth of Australia is long overdue and a very welcome announcement by our Leader David Littleproud.”
She also welcomed the re-instatement of the Local Roads and Communities Infrastructure (LRCI) Fund which the Albanese Government cut back in 2022.
The electorate of Bullwinkel will receive a total of $12.75 million across the eligible local government areas of Toodyay ($872,452), Northam ($1,184,742), York ($949,016), Beverley ($745,038), Canning ($883,037), Gosnells ($1,097,399), Kalamunda ($1,663,260), Swan ($1,721,380) and Mundaring ($1,553,410).
“The LRCI will provide road and infrastructure funding to local Government’s to target their priority projects,” Ms Davies said.
“We are supporting those councils that need it the most – those on the outer fringes of our cities and in the regions – to fix their local roads and address safety issues that can cost lives.”
Ms Davies said the fund was popular with local councils because it allowed them to invest funds quickly and with a minimum of red tape.
“This program will help alleviate the burden on ratepayers and keep cost pressures down,” she said.
“After being starved of funds by the current Labor Government, the Regional Future Fund and LRCI will create opportunities for local government and communities across the electorate of Bullwinkel to thrive, not just survive.”
